Secure Locks vs Your Local Car Dealer

Emergency Automotive Locksmith.

We understand how frustrating it is to realize that your keys were lost or stolen.  Fortunately, this situation does not have to be as dreadful as it seems. Car key replacement is one of our most requested services and we are only a phone call away.

When people lose car keys, the first thing that comes to mind is to call the car dealership.  Trips to dealerships usually end up quite expensive, time consuming, and inconvenient.  In addition, if all of the keys are lost, most of the time you are required to have your car towed to the dealership in order for them to program your brand new key.  Another important factor is that most service departments at the dealer usually close at 5pm and are closed on Sundays.

Calling Secure Locks is a much better value.  We provide affordable pricing, save you from having your car towed, and are available 24/7/365.  Our technician will come to the location of your vehicle and do the job on-site.  We will provide a key or a fob, generate cuts (if necessary), and program it for you.  The process usually takes between 30-45 minutes. The best part is that our service is still up to 70% less expensive than what the dealer charges.  It is a win-win situation for you.

Different Types of Car Keys

Car Keys Replacement.
  • Metal Keys

Not all cars require keys to programmed to your car. Most metal keys will lock/unlock door lock and start the car.

  • Transponder Keys

Also known as “chip-keys”.  It looks almost identical to traditional metal key, but provides extra security.  If it is not programmed your car will not start. A transponder key is required to be programmed to your car.

  • Remote Head Keys

The only difference between a transponder and remote head keys is that a remote head key contains a remote head with buttons to lock/unlock your car, panic button, open truck and autostart (if available).

  • Flip Key

Also known as “switchblade keys”. It resembles a smart key with lock/unlock, trunk, panic, and auto-start buttons.  However, it has another button (usually located in the corner) that will reveal a blade once pressed.

  • Smart Key (key fob key)

If your car has a push-to-start button it uses a smart key.  Introduced in 2005, smart keys will eventually eliminate all other keys in coming years and will become the new standard.  It usually contains a metal emergency key that will unlock your car in case your smart key stops working.

    FAQs

My car keys were stolen, is there any way to make a brand new key and render the stolen one inoperable?

Absolutely. We will advise disabling the stolen key. However, there are a few nuances to keep in mind:
    • If your vehicle uses a push to start ignition it should still contain an emergency blade key. This means the other party will be able to use the emergency blade to unlock your drivers door, but will not be able to start the vehicle. Only the brand new key created by our technician will be able to start the vehicle.
    • If your vehicle uses keyed ignition the other party will be able to unlock the driver’s door lock and twist ignition. However, the vehicle will not start. Only the brand new key created by our technician will be able to start your vehicle.
    • Some make and models require a minimum of two active keys in your car’s computer. For example, if you own a Ford and the only key was stolen, we will be forced to program a minimum of two keys in order for your Ford to start. Some other makers have a similar process. Please contact us with the year, make, and model for more information.

I lost the only key to my vehicle, do I need to tow it to my local car dealer?

No. That is one of the greatest advantages when you contact Secure Locks for your automotive locksmith needs. Our technician will come to the location of your vehicle and do the job on-site. You do not have to go through the hassle of having your vehicle towed to the dealer and then wait hours for them to finish working on it. In most cases, our technicians are able to finish the job within 30-45 min.

I am looking for a local car locksmith near me? What is your area of coverage?

The furthest coverage point is north is Waukegan, west of Aurora, south of Chicago Heights, or east of Hammond, IN. We may be able to send a technician past coverage destinations, but there may be an additional trip charge fee.

Do you work on European cars as well
