Lilacia Park, nestled in the heart of Lombard, Illinois, has blossomed significantly from its humble beginnings as a private estate. Originally the estate of Colonel William Plum and his wife Helen Maria Williams, the couple was enchanted by lilacs and began cultivating them extensively.
Upon their deaths, they bequeathed the estate to the village in 1927, with the stipulation that it be transformed into a public park. The community embraced this gift, fostering a shared sense of pride and ownership.
Over the years, local efforts have expanded the park's variety of lilacs and other flora, making it a verdant haven that reflects the collective spirit and heritage of Lombard. This transformation highlights a legacy of community value and natural beauty.
